About Our Worship

We welcome all people at All Saints Episcopal Church and want to help you feel comfortable observing or joining worship. Our tradition is liturgical, following patterns of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. If this is the first time you have visited an Episcopal Church, here are some helpful points.

  • Our building is accessible. Wheelchair seating is next to the front pews under the lectern.
  • A hearing loop is installed and portable receivers are available. Ask an usher!
  • Babies and children are welcome at worship. We understand crying or fussing as a joyful noise. Our nursery is not currently staffed, but parents are welcome to make use of the space.
WHAT'S GOING ON?
  • A service bulletin refers to our Book of Common Prayer (red cover) and Hymnal (blue cover) to help us join together in common worship.
  • Our Celebrant is an ordained priest of the Episcopal Church who leads us in worship and guides us through the service.
  • We may stand, sit, or kneel at times during the service, according to custom and our own abilities and preference. Follow your neighbor!
  • The 8:30 am Sunday service is quiet and contemplative.
  • Music is an important part of the 10:30 am Sunday service, with congregational hymn singing, choir anthems, and service music.
  • Building architecture, as well as our pattern of our worship, focuses on the love of God as experienced in the mysteries of the altar.

ABOUT COMMUNION
  • All baptized Christians are welcome at the altar.
  • To receive Communion, follow those seated in front of you to the altar rail. You may kneel or stand. Cup your hands to receive the communion wafer, then lightly grasp the base of the chalice with your hand to guide it to your lips.  Please be aware that we use real wine.
  • You may choose to receive only the bread or only the wine. You may also choose to simply receive a blessing by crossing your hands over your chest.
  • Gluten-free wafers are available upon request.
